Healing Burnout from the Inside Out: A Client Story from Flatiron
A high-achieving client from Flatiron came to me in a state many professionals will recognize — exhausted, emotionally flat, and silently questioning how much longer she could keep going like this.
She had the resume, the outward success, the life that “looked good on paper.” But inside? She felt disconnected. From joy, from rest, even from her own desires. Like she was performing life rather than living it.
This wasn’t a scheduling problem. It was a nervous system problem. A trauma pattern. A protective strategy that had run its course.
The Approach: Blending IFS & Somatic Therapy
We began with Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy — identifying inner parts that demanded overachievement, perfection, and control. These parts weren’t bad. They were protective. But they had taken over, leaving no space for vulnerability, creativity, or rest.
In parallel, we used somatic therapy to track her body’s cues. She learned to recognize when she was fawning, freezing, or disconnecting. Small practices helped her feel safe being seen, setting boundaries, and breathing into her body again.
Over several months, the transformation was subtle — then stunning.
What Changed?
She stopped apologizing for her needs
She took a full week off without guilt
She reconnected with a partner from a more grounded, honest place
She felt joy again — not performative joy, but embodied ease
These are the kinds of breakthroughs I witness often — not through force or quick fixes, but through steady, attuned, trauma-informed therapy.
I work with clients across Chelsea, Kips Bay, Williamsburg, and Downtown Brooklyn who are high-performing but deeply ready for something more honest, more alive.
